NEMEA
Start of the project: 01-12-2024
End of project: 01-03-2028
General objective:
The NEMEA project aims to bring together key Belgian industrial and academic players to develop new energetic materials - explosives, propellants and obscurants - to create more efficient, cost-effective ammunition and effectors adapted to emerging threats such as drones, guided missiles and rocket-propelled munitions. It is based on an integrated and collaborative approach to improve performance, protection and production capacity in a high-intensity conflict context. In particular, the project covers the development of multispectral obscurants, advanced ignition formulations, innovative composite propellants and enhanced blast effect explosives, with the ultimate aim of demonstrator production and scientific valorization.
Materia Nova's mission:
Materia Nova processes oxidizing powders by plasma deposition (PVD or PECVD) to improve their interaction with the oxidizing polymer in composite propellants. This treatment optimizes adhesion, enhances chemical compatibility and improves system stability. By carefully selecting coating materials, Materia Nova also helps to increase fuel safety by making it more difficult to initiate, while improving mechanical properties and service life.
