VISIT OF MR. ELIO DI RUPO TO THE PREMISES OF MATERIA NOVA.

Mons

On Friday 3 February 2023, Mr. Elio Di Rupo visited the Materia Nova research centre in Mons where he was welcomed by Mr. Philippe Dubois, rector of the UMONS and co-president of Materia Nova, and by Mr. Luc Langer, director of the centre.

Two important projects of the company in the fight against cancer were presented to him:

The Pathacov project, which aims at the early diagnosis of bronchopulmonary cancers by analysing organic and volatile compounds via an electronic nose.

The Mat(t)isse project aims to create a new, personalised, 3D-printed and resorbable bioprosthesis to help the body regenerate the areas damaged during a mastectomy.

Di Rupo also had the opportunity to visit Materia Nova’s laboratories where clean processes for the production of green hydrogen are being developed and the latest facilities at the research centre where new generations of bioplastics are being developed.

This visit aroused great interest in the Minister-President of the Walloon government, who asked many questions about the two biomedical projects, but also, among other things, about the new processes for producing hydrogen, the recovery of gases from our old mines, innovations relating to plastics and their recycling…

Materia Nova, as the UMONS Innovation Center, is proud to have been able to present these projects to Mr. Di Rupo, which highlight the scientific excellence and expertise of Hainaut’s know-how.

This visit coincides with World Cancer Day on 4 February. It demonstrates Materia Nova’s commitment to research and innovation in the fields of health, new materials and energy. Sectors that pose many challenges to our society.
