SMART1

SMART1 project deals with an ambitious topic related to the “Development of non-invasive test for malaria diagnosis” with direct social and worldwide health impact.
The project is coordinated by the pharmaceutical industry partner Contipharma. The project is a part of the Win4Company program funded by the Wallonia Region, thus encouraging Wallonia research and innovation initiatives.
During the first stage of the SMART1 project, Materia Nova mission was focused on the production of tailored made materials with desired properties and functionalities. The materials were developed from biocompatible and biodegradable polymers. The materials presented remarkable characteristics: light weighted, high surface area, high porosity, flexibility and adapted thermal properties, a key elements for the final application of the device. The eco-design of the materials, accompanied with their biodegradable and recycling potential, is making them of interest for the preparation of next generation biomaterials and biomedical devices.
