Fire test laboratory

The Fire Testing Laboratory of Materia Nova, drawing on its expertise in the development of flame-retardant materials, carries out reaction-to-fire tests and supports the development of flame-retardant solutions tailored to client requirements.

  • Cone calorimeter (Mass Loss Cone, ISO 17554 standard): monitoring of heat release and mass loss,
  • Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) measurement,
  • Fire classification of materials using the UL-94 test (vertical and horizontal),
  • Vertical flammability test according to EN ISO 11925-2,
  • Glow Wire Test: flammability testing for plastic materials used in electrical, electronic products and household appliances,
  • CTI – Comparative Tracking Index (IEC 60112 standard): assessment of the electrical tracking resistance of insulating materials, a key electrical and fire safety parameter for electronics, household appliances and electrical/e-mobility applications,
  • Smoke chamber: measurement of smoke opacity from the combustion or decomposition of plastic materials (ASTM D2843),
  • Simulation of SBI results (Single Burning Item, EN 13501-1) based on cone calorimeter data.

These tests can be complemented by thermal analyses (TGA under air and nitrogen) and morphological analyses (SEM-EDX) carried out in support of your developments.
