ACTIPOLY

  • Start of the project : 01-05-15
  • End of project : 31-10-17

Multi-purpose active packaging made from thermoformable cellulosic materials in order to increase the shelf life of fresh produce with a view to reducing waste.

The aim of this research project is to develop new packaging materials for the fresh produce sector in order to extend their shelf life through more environmentally friendly packaging materials.

In order to extend the shelf life of fresh produce, we will investigate different methods to avoid microbial contamination problems through the development of antimicrobial coatings. These new functionalities will be achieved through the use of natural antimicrobial agents (incorporated into the packaging surface or directly into the polymer matrix) and the development of superhydrophobic coatings.

Objectives and missions of Materia Nova

Within the consortium, Materia Nova will mainly be involved in the formulation of new polymer materials with antimicrobial properties, their characterizations and life cycle analyses.
